Objectives

  1. To facilitate networking and the exchange of ideas;
  2. To raise awareness regarding destination marketing and its benefits;
  3. To discuss implications of the Sorbara Report recommendations with respect to Sunset Country;
  4. To allow tourism entities in Sunset Country to adapt to, react quickly to, or move ahead of, changes within its political and competitive environments with a clear, unified approach;
  5. To clearly identify strengths that currently distinguish Sunset Country as a unique, world class destination;
  6. To identify, and prioritize, gaps and problems that impact the marketing of  tourism in Sunset Country;
  7. To provide an analysis of current tourism market conditions in Sunset Country and to identify appropriate opportunities and target markets;
  8. To briefly review previous and current tourism marketing activities in Northwestern Ontario, in order to ensure that the new destination marketing initiative is complementary to, or in partnership with, existing activities;
  9. To establish a series of “product profiles” and “tourism profiles” that build on strengths and capitalize on opportunities; and
  10. To facilitate discussions that will lead to the development of a list of guidelines, ideas and initiatives which partners can act on.
